SUMMARY:Candy O (The Ultimate Tribute To The Cars and Ric Ocasek)
DESCRIPTION:Doors open at 8pm 21+  Tix $20adv/$25 doors \nTHE CARS is easily one of the most popular bands from the late 70’s and early 80’s.  Their first album is among the best debut records of all time\, spawning chart-topping hits and songs that to this day are still played all over the radio.  One could say they were a band ahead of their time\, as they helped shape the 80’s “new wave” sound which is hugely popular almost 40 years later as attest to their 2018 induction to the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame. \n\nIn 2001\, singer and frontman Darryl Battaglia was looking to put together a band that would appeal to the mass audience who loved the sound and total vibe of the 80’s.  After hearing “Just What I Needed” one night on the radio\, he was inspired to form Candy-O\, the ultimate tribute to the Cars.  Since the bands inception\, the Candy-O core players have remained\, with Darryl as Ric Ocasek\, McCrea Adams as Greg Hawkes on keyboard and Brenton Worthy as Benjamin Orr on bass and vocals.  2019 brings in two new members\, Bob Duda as David Robinson on drums and John Nevolo as Elliot Easton on guitar. \nCovering all of the Cars’ radio hits as well as some popular album cuts\, Candy-O captures the terminal cool of the Cars live performance in all aspects\, all live\, with no vocal sampling whatsoever. The band has consistently amazed and entertained crowds whenever and wherever they hit the stage. So catch a ride to the era that was all about fun\, and enjoy the sound and vision of the 80’s created by Candy-O!

Food and seating avaialble first come first served. 21+ \nNo Animals Were Harmed is an instrumental Portland trio specializing in their own brand of “remedial math rock\,” blending genres like punk\, metal\, indie\, prog.\, etc. into a cacophony of melodic soundscapes. Their influences are vast\, but their goal is simple: bring an energetic electricity to the stage that matches the manic magnetism of the music.\n\nSunwell is a two-piece prog rock band hailing from Salem\, OR. Founded during the pandemic\, Sunwell began as a continuation of The Arbor\, a more pop rock-oriented project\, which ended in 2020. \nSince then\, Sunwell has developed its own signature prog rock sound\, equal parts introspective and technical. The band consists of Bret Cowan and Zachary Mendoza\, who strive to usher in a new era of rock music.

During his almost 40 years as lead singer and main songwriter of Toad the Wet Sprocket\, Glen Phillips has helped create the band’s elegant folk/pop sound with honest\, introspective lyrics that forged a close bond with fans. Alongside his work with Toad\, Glen has released acclaimed solo albums and collaborated on projects ranging from Mutual Admiration Society (with members of Nickel Creek) to the experimental Remote Tree Children. \n“I’ve been playing a songwriting game with Texas folk singer Matt The Electrician for about ten years\,” Glen says. “Every Friday\, he sends out a title. We have a week to write a song that includes it. The process allows me to write songs I wouldn’t write on my own. I’m always surprised at what comes out.” That sense of curiosity and play continues to fuel his creative life. \nComing off a very full year of music\, Glen played to packed solo shows across the US\, toured the Rockies with John Craigie\, and hit the road with Toad the Wet Sprocket for a massive summer tour that featured openers The Jayhawks\, Sixpence None the Richer\, KT Tunstall\, and Vertical Horizon. This fall he heads overseas to tour the UK with Colin Hay\, and in October he hosts his first-ever European river cruise on the Danube\, traveling from Budapest to Nuremberg. \n\nGlen has also launched a new partnership with Volume\, where he’ll be live streaming at least once a month. Doors open ay 7:30 (THIS SHOW IS SOLD OUT IN ADVANCE) \nNB Ridaz entered the stage in 1997 with their titled album (The First Chapter) and top single on the Hip Hop charts with “Down For Yours”. \nDos and Zig Zag had been instrumental in the Latin rap scene in the southwestern states of the U.S and Arizona-based. \nNB Ridaz (changed earlier from Nasty Boy Klick). Along with the third member MC Magic who had Billboard hits with So Fly\, Pretty Girl\, Runaway\, and many more\, the NB Ridaz moderate success brandishing their blend of Rap\, Urban\, R&B\, and Hip Hop. \nMagic’s pursuit of a solo careering in the mid-2000s\, left Dos and Zig Zag to explore other options. The Dynamic Duo with the incorporation of Spanish lyrics into their music did not limit the scope of those audiences as their debut “Special Girl” which peaked in the Top 40 for independently released albums. \n​Now the NB Ridaz continues to tour and sell-out shows across the United States. SUMMARY:Swing Shift Band (Free afternoon show)
DESCRIPTION:FREE SHOW! 21+ \nThe Swing Shift Band started out in 1991 as an oldies band in Lompoc\, CA. Band leader Bernie Espinoza had just moved up from the LA area. His musical vision at that time was to put together a band that would honor the music from this genre. The band became quite adept at playing anything from Motown oldies to classic rock. \nAs time went on\, with changes in personnel\, and an ever- growing demand for a musical variety\, the Swing Shift Band has enhanced its repertoire. Aside from the oldies and classic rock\, the band also plays old school/R&B funk\, Latin\, blues\, as well as a sprinkling of country and swing music\, thus resulting in a party that thrives on a non-stop dancing\, toe-tapping\, finger-popping groove; a recipe for a real good time. The band is all about having fun and making new friends. \nBased on the Central Coast\, these musicians that form the Swing Shift Band come from diverse musical backgrounds: \nEspinoza is the founder\, lead singer and harmonica player of the band. He started singing in bands when he was 11 years old growing up in San Pedro\, CA. At 18 years of age he taught himself how to play the harmonica\, playing along to blues tunes\, music by WAR\, as well as to Mexican ranchera and bolero music.  He continued to sing throughout the LA and San Diego club scene\, playing with salsa\, Mexican and rock bands. He has had the pleasure of playing with Los Lobos in San Diego in 1978. Bernie’s musical influences are Carlos Santana\, Joe Cocker\, Los Lobos\, Flaco Jimenez\, The Temptations\, George Harrison and Lee Oskar. Bernie now resides in Port Hueneme\, CA. \nAdding the “bottom” to the SSB sound is Bob Goff on bass and vocals. Starting out in Ventura\, CA\, Bob has played guitar or bass in various groups featuring bluegrass\, country\, folk\, rock\, and contemporary Christian music. Bob’s musical influences started with his father (who played country and bluegrass guitar)\, The Rolling Stones\, The Doors\, Steppenwolf\, Crosby\, Stills & Nash and The Eagles. Bob and Jerry Watson both play on their church’s Worship Team. He resides in Nipomo\, CA. \nKeeping the Swing Shift sound tight. Jerry Watson has been playing drums since he was 10 years old. Jerry grew up in Santa Maria learning his craft from noted session drummer Curt Bisquera (who tours with Elton John as a percussionist). Jerry has been with Swing Shift for 14 years\, but before he joined the band\, he was playing drums for a heavy metal band for several years. He has also been in quite a few R&B bands\, as well. He loves to play Latin music and is not afraid to explore other musical styles. Because of this diversity\, Jerry’s style fits quite well with Swing Shift. Jerry’s musical influences are Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass\, Chicago\, Earth\, Wind & Fire and The Isley Brothers. He resides in Santa Maria\, CA. \nOn guitar we have Tom Bennett (who also plays the drums). Tom is a noted local musician who has toured extensively throughout the US including Alaska. He also plays with the Bennett Bros. Band which includes both his brother and his son. Tom is noted for playing the classic rock and country/western sound\, however\, when given the opportunity\, Tom can lay down the funk with the best of them. Tom’s musical influences are the Eagles\, Charlie Daniels and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass. Tom resides in Santa Maria\, CA. \nIn the 27 years of being in existence\, The Swing Shift Band has played many venues throughout Northern and Southern California\, from San Francisco to the LA area. Notable venues include: The Chumash Casino & Resort in Santa Ynez\, CA; Table Mountain Casino in Fresno\, CA; The Historic Union Hotel in Los Alamos\, CA; The Elks Lodges in Santa Maria\, Oceano\, Lompoc and San Luis Obispo\, CA; not to mention numerous county fairs and festivals\, charity benefits\, private functions such as weddings and parties; as well as many nightclubs. The Swing Shift Band has also shared the stage with noted acts as classic R&B legend J.J. Jackson (“But It’s Alright”)\, Terry Lawless (keyboardist for U2) and noted LA salsa legend\, pianist Octavio Figueroa.

Exemplary of that sound is the current standout Stanley Simmons\, who took their single “Body Down” and paired it with a throwback visualizer directed by Shey and Kuya Allen that magnanimously haunts with revere and intrigue. Pairing a naturalistic backdrop with very trippy visuals\, the band is set for a collision with mainstream success via a genre that has rebuked it for decades. Counter culture has never been all sweet\, and when Stanley Simmons contextualizes this genre for the present day\, we wonder if there will be more bodies downed by its primal excellence.

This concept of PMA continues to inspire HR’s fans. \nEarly in his career\, HR became interested in reggae and the Rastafarian movement. These pursuits transformed him\, and he began to focus more on the spiritual nature of reggae rather than the fast lifestyle of the punk scene. In 1984\, HR formed his reggae-rock band Human Rights\, which has performed and recorded in various incarnations for more than three decades. \n\n

Table reservations are $100\, email monte@thesirenmorrobay.com \nJamaica’s first dancehall superstar\, Yellowman ushered in a new era in reggae music following Bob Marley’s death. His early-’80s success brought the popularity of toasting — the reggae equivalent of rapping — to a whole new level\, and helped establish dancehall as the wave of the future. For better or for worse\, he also epitomized dancehall’s penchant for “slack” lyrics — that is\, casual violence\, sexism\, homophobia\, and general rudeness. Graphic sexuality was his particular forte\, reaching levels of explicitness previously unheard in Jamaica. It brought him numerous detractors\, but it was also a big reason for his early popularity. There was more to it than that\, though; Yellowman was one of the most verbally nimble toasters of his time\, with a loose\, easy flow\, a talent for improvisation\, and a definite wit in his wordplay. Plus\, all the boasting about his prowess on the mic or in the bedroom had to be over the top to be convincing: true to his stage name\, Yellowman is an albino\, which carries a tremendous social stigma in Jamaica. His rise to stardom was unlikely enough\, but his transformation from untouchable outcast into sex symbol was staggering — and may not even have taken place without his trademark lewdness. Shocking though it could be\, it affirmed him as a sexual being just like his listeners\, and was delivered with enough humor to let the audience know that he didn’t take himself too seriously. Bouts with cancer pushed him into more thoughtful\, socially conscious territory in the 1990s\, but his initial style remains the most influential\, paving the way for countless dancehall toasters to follow. He remained quiet through most of the 2000s before mounting a comeback with 2019’s No More War. \n\nYellowman was born Winston Foster in Negril\, Jamaica\, in 1959 (some accounts say 1956). An early target for abuse because of his albinism\, he grew up in an institution in Kingston\, with little to keep him company besides music. Influenced by early toasting DJs like U-Roy\, he practiced rhyming and got a job with the Gemini Sound System as a substitute DJ. Christening himself Yellowman and dressing in a bright yellow suit\, he peppered his lyrics with jokes about his skin color and outlandish tales of his sexual conquests. In 1979\, he won a landslide victory at the well-known Tastee Talent Contest\, and within months he had become one of Jamaica’s top concert draws\, thanks to a dynamic\, humorous stage show in which he often used the microphone to mimic his anatomical gifts. \n
