Located on the central coast based out of Pismo CA! \n\nInfluences: Paul McCartney\, Steven Stills\, Van Morrison\, James Taylor\, George Jones\, Paul Simon\, Dwight Yokum\, Jackson Brown\, The Beatles\,\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nMark & Robin Crisp were brought up in Visalia\, California\, and now live on the central coast of California.\nRobin\, a guitar player and co writer in the Crisptones Band\, also plays lap steel\, dobro\, piano and most of the lead work. Robin\, who’s three years older than Mark\, was a gigantic musical influence on his younger brother.\n” Dugie” a nick name of Mark’s\, he got as a kid is a guitar player and writes a lot of the songs for the Crisptones\, Dugie (Mark) was awarded “Singer\, Songwriter of 2007”\, by the Dallas Song Writers Association. Mark was also top finalist in the Durango Song Writing Contest of 2007 with two songs and was also a finalist in the 11th Annual 2007 Unisong International Song Writing Competition. Mark plays almost all his own guitar work and dabbles in several other instruments. Mark has two complete cd’s.\nWith influences that include Paul McCartney\, James Taylor\, Jackson Browne\, Crosby\, Stills and Nash and other current acts such as Alison Krauss\, Dwight Yokum\, & Tom Petty\, Mark and Rob Crisp’s writings are both familiar & new. Mark\, at times writes songs with a sense of humor. I’m Just Here To Make You Look Good\, a line he got from a bald man who was at a poetry class that was packed with cute young girls. But other songs he’s written are bittersweet and touching. When Mark’s mother passed away he wrote a tune “Mama’s Stew” which has already created quite a stir on Music Row. Robin\, a part time backhoe operator wrote a song “Best Little Hoe In Town” a really cool rock tune that has a funny bone to it. There are a lot of people who are thinking about what they’re going to do in life\, Mark said. Now\, more than ever we love to write. The Siren is a small\, intimate club style venue and seating is limited and first come first served and is dictated by estimated show sales. \n\nUpstate New Yorker\, with new album ‘Madman\,’ brings a rare pitch to modern pop \nSean Rowe knows he cuts an imposing figure. He boasts a bouncer’s build\, a biker’s hair and a voice lower than Johnny Cash with a head cold. \n“It can be intense\,” he says\, with a laugh. \nSo imagine that one day a guy like this shows up at your house to perform. That’s what’s been happening periodically over the last year\, while Rowe has been on a promotional “house tour.” Conceived in the retro-trendy troubadour tradition\, the tour found Rowe reaching out to fans through Facebook to play free shows in their living rooms. \n“It can be awkward for invited friends or family members who don’t know me\,” the singer says. “Suddenly\, this hairy\, bearded dude shows up and starts playing. And I don’t water down my songs for these shows at all.” \nThe intimacy and rarity of Rowe’s songs can prove jarring or entrancing\, depending on your point of view. Either way\, they’ve been getting him a lot of attention. He deserves even more for his new album\, “Madman\,” which widens his sound significantly. Its songs will be front and center at Rowe’s show Friday 7 p.m. at Rockwood Music Hall. \nThe first thing listeners will notice about Rowe is his vocal pitch. He’s a baritone — a rarity outside of country music. The voice isn’t just deep in register\, but also in character. Like the best baritones\, Rowe can sound sinister or sexy\, sage-like or sweet. \nPart of his depth has to do with age. Though the upstate New York-based singer didn’t release an album until 2011\, he’s staring down the barrel at 40. \nRowe thinks that’s an advantage. “When you’re young\, you have issues\,” he says. “Being older\, you’re wiser about your next move.” \nThe singer didn’t land a significant recording contract until he was 36. He signed with the boutique Anti Records\, which issued the “Magic” LP\, recorded by Rowe on his own. The home approach explains that album’s stripped-down brand of art-folk. You could hear the woody rattle of his acoustic guitar’s surface\, the waxiness of its nylon strings and the reverberations of its hollow body.\nSean Rowe didn’t have a significant record contract until her was 36. He worked with kids in after-school programs about music and nature. He also had some terrible jobs. “I put the liners inside the caps of medical test tubes for eight hours a day\,” he says. “I lasted three days.” \nMeanwhile\, Rowe played local bars\, honing his sound. After recording “Magic\,” the singer quickly set about making another. This time he had enough of a budget to pay session musicians. The result\, “The Salesman and the Shark” (2012)\, added exotic instruments\, like a string octet (for a touch of chamber folk)\, a Casiotone (for some 1980s synth touches) and a vibraphone. Female backup singers gave the songs a hint of Leonard Cohen\, already evoked by Rowe’s gravelly voice and poetic lyrics.
