DESCRIPTION:FREE AFTERNOON SHOW! \nMike Healy & The Canaries are a 5 piece Alt-Americana band fronted by Santa Maria Native Mike Healy. \nFormed in 2018\, The band is a natural progression from Healy’s singer/songwriter beginnings. \nHealy writes lyrics as if he is the lovechild of Tom Waits and Charles Bukowski\, pouring brilliant moments of lucidity into drunken ballads of regret\, longing and living.  His soft\, low vocal delivery belies the ferocity of his intent\, the soulfulness of his songs. \nBacking Healy is quite possibly the most eclectic mix of players ever assembled. Bassist John Murtha is an unrepentant 80’s punker\, guitarist Joe Kidd worships at the altar of Devo\, lead guitarist Greg Lloyd mixes post-punk sensibility with clean Cali surf vibes.  Rounding out the rhythm section is Phil Gonsalves\, a 60’s mod with an affection for Northern Soul. It is truly serendipitous that this collective formed\, and the resulting music is testament to their individual musical styles and talents. \nThese random backgrounds combine into a completely beautiful\, disparate ensemble\, unique in their collective effort. The gathering of this musical coterie brings us tunes reminiscent of Ryan Adams\, Tom Waits\, Drive By Truckers\, Wilco and other greats of American Music…truly a one of a kind group that you must see live to fully appreciate. \n\n \n  \n
