Alright, Alright, Alright
Equal parts Broken Spoke, Hollywood hotspot and CBGB, Johnny Marfa and the Lights are a Southern-fried, Cali-fied, Texas Tornado of good times.
Johnny Marfa lives in Venice, California, but calls Fort Worth, Texas home. Once, some yuppie jack-ass questioned his Texas roots after a sunset gig in LA, and it nearly came to fisticuffs. Luckily, Johnny’s charming, debonair personality and daunting 6’3” frame prevailed on the lad, and everyone left as great friends and lifelong fans — as is the case at every Johnny Marfa and the Lights show.
For the better part of a year, the band has been in residence at the swanky Hollywood rooftop honky tonk, The Desert 5 Spot. Melting faces and driving the line-dance-crazy California crowd to hit the dance floor the right way — for some Texas Two Steppin — they regularly grace the stages of country music joints around Southern California. Johnny Marfa and the Lights are heading out on tour in Nashville and Texas this fall and winter.
The Band
Born in New Mexico and raised in Texas, Marfa developed his stage presence in the theaters of New York and soundstages of Hollywood, finding the perfect balance of Texas style and punk-ass charm. His mug has filled small and large screens as a scumbag and hero and he lent his pipes to video games and beer commercials. His Lights support him: Landon Lee Kirksey on harmonica and vocals and telecaster picker Phillip Alan Smith round out the key members of the band.

The Music Video
Marfa’s recent music video for “Keep on L-I-V-I-N” directed by award-winning Stephanie Sanditz gives viewers just a taste of what a live show is really like. The short film was recorded in eight hours in Hollywood, premiering on the same stage it was filmed in July.
