Norwood Fisher and his brothers, along with Angelo Moore, formed a high-energy punk and ska band in 1979. Their first gig was at the legendary Madame Wong’s in Los Angeles’s Chinatown. Initially named Megatron, they later changed their name to Fishbone—partly inspired by their love for soup and their family name. The band quickly gained a reputation for their electrifying live performances, touring the world and releasing a string of influential songs, including “Sunless Saturday,” “Everyday Sunshine,” and “Swim.” Norwood’s distinctive bass playing can also be heard on various film soundtracks, leading to an unexpected yet successful acting career with roles in Dead Man Walking, I’m Gonna Git You Sucka, and Idlewild. While exploring new basses at the 2025 NAMM Show, he took a moment to share his remarkable journey as part of the NAMM Oral History program.
